NIMP 15: Constraint or Chance for wooden pallets ?
Several
disasters occured because of devastating insects in the USA, in Portugal,
now in Europe. This is the result of
the introduction and development of larvas and insects carried by
modern means of transport , where they can find a place to feed and grow.
NIMP15 aims to make certain that no wooden package exported
contains larvas or insects.
They must be treated.
Two methods are suggested:
Heat treatment at 56° during 30 minuts
or Fumigation with Methyl Bromure during 6 hours
NIMP15 should be applied by 2004.
The treatment certificate of wooden products should be provided by package
suppliers.
Thus each wood package supplier must be certified and each consumer is
supposed to check whether his supplier is indeed, if you don¹t want to have
your products put into quarantine in the foreign country, which includes
problems of delay and cost.
